hello ^^, how are yuo guys, my name is kareem, and i'm new here this is my first time here, and i need your help,

i have downloaded a version of ubuntu: ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386.iso
i work with windows 7 i mounted the iso with ultraiso without purn it in CD, and i i install it with option install in windows till now every things is natural ^^ but i reboot it i choose ubuntu and it gaves me this black screen with message ==>

hi,

if someone had any solution to your problem, im sure they would have chimed in and offered advice.

i don't have a solution, either, unfortunately. many/most Ubuntu users do not use the windows ubuntu installer (wubi) because of problems similar to yours. with wubi installs, a windows problem can affect the ubuntu install, so it can be difficult to fix. the problem is made worse because long-term Ubuntu users very rarely use wubi, and so don't have experience with fixing it's problems.

to quote the creator (http://howsoftwareisbuilt.com/2009/03/12/interview-with-agostino-russo-wubi-ubuntu/) of wubi:

Agostino: Wubi actually wasn’t designed to do long-term installations. The main aim was really to let people try out Ubuntu with confidence. Normally, users that start with Wubi tend to upgrade to a full installation to a dedicated partition at the next release cycle.

You don't need to mount the .iso - just copy it into a folder, then download wubi.exe from http://wubi-installer.org/ and place it in the same folder, and run it.

I can't say why your install didn't work, but I've done it many times and never had such a problem. I'd retry with the above method and if you still have problems, post back with the details (include the wubi-xxx.log file from the %temp% directory).

hello friends i did what did you said and i extrat it in a folder in c:\ and i downloaded the wubi.exe, and put it in the seem folder but when i install it from wubi it stuck in middle and give me this message :

I think you can still use the i386 version. According to this http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/ it works on intel and AMD chips.

To force wubi.exe you can add --32bit to the command line... e.g. wubi.exe --32bit.
You have to have internet access to validate the md5sum unless you override this --skipmd5check. But in this case you should check it yourself.

I'm not in windows, but if you've downloaded wubi, just right-click, properties, go to where it shows what it runs: "c:\somepath\wubi.exe" and add the options e.g. "c:\somepath\wubi.exe --32bit --someOtherOption"
Then run it.

Or you can run it from command prompt as well.

right click, create shortcut.
righ click on shortcut, change Target to be
C:\somepath\wubi.exe --32bit

I did see a report of a bug on 10.04.1 (actually it was a comment within a bug about something else) about not being able to download the metalink. But it didn't reference your original problem.

All I can suggest is: install the 10.04 and run updates to take you to 10.04.1; and/or file a bug; and/or do a direct partition install.

Try this:

sudo apt-get install language-pack-fror install through Synaptic (under System, Administration)

Logout, and then at the login screen, select French.

Yes 10.04 is really fast. I've been playing with 9.04 today and it's incredibly slow in comparison.
