A couple months ago, I posted a question wondering why there a differences between ubuntu on my home vs office computers. Specifically, the email client FirstClass worked at home but not at the office. This question persists.

New Problem
Here is another difference. When I upgraded to version 10.04 at the office - no problem (other than firstclass still not working). At home, I could not even finish the upgrade before the screen starting flashing. Completely off for 3-4 seconds then flash on for less than 1/2 a second. I have gone back to version 9.10. I got exactly the same thing when I tried to install Mint 9

Also, recently (in ver. 9.10 )various plugins stopped working - sites such as Youtube (an error has occurred, please try again later) and Pandora and other internet radio - although some youtube videos embedded in other pages (e.g. Yahoo) sometimes work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe flash plugin several times with no effect. I have also tried all the other plugin suggestions that occasionally pop up on my screen when I try to visit these sites.
This was actually the reason I decided to try Mint in the first place - but I didn't get far for the reason mentioned above.

Thanks to those who tried to help earlier and for any new suggestions.

My screen flashes too. I was told to lower the refresh rate, but I only have one option under the refresh rate.
