Hello everyone,

Following this forum thread discussion on Rootkits http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-819301.html "the following is stated:

Ps: as others have told me, there is very little threat of getting a rootkit from the internet. you have to isntall them, and almost always with sudo or gksu. as such, just don't install software from outside the repositories, and don't add any repositories not cross referenced by cannonical (ubuntu), and you should be fine."

What does cross referenced repositories by cannonical (ubuntu) mean?

1. I am guessing the Main, Universe, Restricted and Multiverse repositories are OK.

2. I suppose allowing Source Code and Canonical partners in the Software Sources, fits the criteria?

3. Would Medibuntu and .getdeb, be included in the selection also?

4. Are there any other criteria/stipulations, that would include repositories as being cross-referenced by canonical/ubuntu?

I fear I have been too vague.

Would it be better to simply ask .. What does Ubuntu Cross-referenced Repositories mean?

Thank you.
