I'm feeling experimental tonight and thought I might try my hand at installing the latest (I think) kernel, 2.6.34. I'm using pre-compiled files from this site:
http://www.ramoonus.nl/2010/05/linux-kernel-2-6-34-installation-guide-for-ubuntu-linux-10-04/
My question is, once I've downloaded them, how do I install them? Do I simply type

sudo install <package name>
or is there more to it than that?

If you have a good reason for installing this Kernel use the GDebi Package Installer , and follow the instructions on your own link. If you do not need this kernel for a specific reason I would not suggest installing it.

Actually I do. I need vga switcheroo, which I understand is included in the latest kernel, to switch off my ATI radeon video card and enable the intel integrated card. The ATI card is causing me some grief.
