I'm using Release 9.10 (karmic), Kernel Linux 2.6.31-21-generic. Update Manager has upgraded my system to Linux 2.6.31-22-generic, but will not boot to that version. It hangs & the last thing the screen shows is: "TiMidity++ ASLA midi emulation". When I remove version 22 of the kernel, UM just puts it back. When I boot to version 21, somehow I get 2 different versions of the desktop. One version has older versions of Thunderbird & Firefox etc & the other version has newer versions of those programs.

It looks like I'm stuck in between versions 21 & 22. Can somebody please help me figure out how to get my system to correctly install version 22 or at least help me get it to boot up with the version that's installed?
