Hello All,

I'm relatively new to linux so I'm not surprised I haven't seen these before, but someone is sending me messages that appear on my desktop. These messages are not chat windows, but are little windows that popup in the bottom/right hand side of the screen that contain someone's smarta$$ comments (the messages are similar to the popups that appear when your laptop is low on bat life).

I'm curious how they're doing this?!?!? It has to be someone on my work LAN trying to be funny, but I'm not seeing anything obvious in the logs. I have a software firewall in place. I'm guessing it's some kind of message widget?? Very annoying. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

We're all using ubuntu 10.04 and we're connected via a wired and wireless LAN.

Thanks in advance.

I would first do a review of your installed programs including dock applets or widgets if you have them . I'm not sure how this would happen with out permission . Second, if you have sharing set up on your LAN you may have unknowing given someone the ability to send you these messages.
