View Full Version : Spark - I'd like to see a chat system for Ubuntu Forum users

All,

This is kind of a question/comment sort of deal. I've used Spark at a few different jobs now, you can setup user accounts, chat rooms, etc. And personally I like it better than IRC. Does anyone know if there is a Spark server (OpenFire server rather) that we could sign up for to setup chatrooms and ims for the Ubuntu forums or just for Ubuntu support? I know about the IRC Channels and that, but I just think it would be neat to have a Spark system setup for Ubuntu users to use for help on anything really - have a beginner chat room, virtualization chat room, etc.

Well what do you guys think? Would you like that? Would someone integrate it, if they could?

Thanks,

Shawn B.

Everytime I go onto the IRC for the Ubuntu forums, they're always pretty much dead. Does it integrate with the forum website? Kind of like facebook chat?

No it's it's own application (standalone), you do have to setup OpenFire for authentication, it's pretty neat, here's a link to the software:

and openfire:

All under the GPL too as well.

A chat application that goes on the forum threads would possible be useful. Not sure a standalone application is necessary. There is already #ubuntu on IRC which is quite active.

vBulletin has a chat room facility built-in but would need enabling by the Admins.
