View Full Version : [ubuntu] URL for an upgrade is wrong, how do I change it?/or install a .gz file?

The Upgrade Manager says:

Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/c-korn/vlc/ubuntu/dists/karmic/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found

Which would be a problem as the URL for the package (that I used the internet to find manually) turns out to be:

http://ppa.launchpad.net/c-korn/ubuntu/dists/karmic/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz

How do I change the URL that precisely? It's just set to: http://ppa.launchpad.net/

Alternatively could I just download the .gz file and install it manually? How do I do that?

The c-korn vlc repository appears to be gone.

Yes, it is because the link has been changed to
http://ppa.launchpad.net/c-korn/ubuntu/dists/karmic/main/binary-i386/

rather than
http://ppa.launchpad.net/c-korn/vlc/ubuntu/dists/karmic/main/binary-i386/

which the update manager th8nks it is.

No way to install a .gz file or anything at all?

Why is the Package.gz important anyway?
