View Full Version : [ubuntu] VI editor problem

Hay guys i m a newbie linux user..i have installed ubuntu ultimate edition 2.6 on my laptop...i dont knw y VI editor seems not to be working...when i open any file from it, its not at all able to insert text into file...may be its because of keyboard drivers or smthin..i m not sure yet...my frnd also has d same problem for same version, n he is using it on different companys laptop..
Can anyone suggest how to fix this..

If you aren't familiar with Vim, you might try entering something like "vim test" in a terminal window followed by <cr>, then press <i>. Now enter some text, then press <Esc>. Type ":wq" followed by <cr>. Finally, look at your creation via "cat test"

check out vimtutor. if this all sounds too complicated, try a more beginner-friendly editor such as nano.

i tried that too but its inserting text n when i arrow bak its not able to put text in between....i think i wil work wid gedit from now on....but VI works very wel in fedora...

but thnx for reply
