I mean look at the new Update manager GUI for Ubuntu 10.10:

It's just so sexy. I might use the default Ubuntu Light theme. :D

What do you think?

The app looks the same as when I was a Ubuntu user, except for the gtk theme.

And I think women are sexy, not apps. :)

Yep. Looks much better. One of the strong points of ubuntu always was the human gtk, but radiance/ambiance came out looking less that perfect in 10.04 (IMHO). Good to see it looks much better this time around. And the metacity looks more polished too.
I think it's nice of them to supply both a dark and a light theme out-of-the-box. I hope they keep the new themes minimalistic, and polished as hell.

Need i tell you i'm a sucker foor looks?

Actually there are subtle improvement there and looking at the specification it is still not complete.

Never have and probably never will be a fan of the default Ubuntu theme.

Where's the purple?

I agree with TheNerdAL. I wasn't keen on the 9.10 default but I think Lucid's default is beautiful.

Yeah. :P Now they just have to make it look less boring when it's freshly installed.

They'll have to make it look absolutely amazing to win me over. I miss the old brown theme. The purple just looks so unprofessional to me.

I like Ambiance and am indifferent to the purple though I do miss the brown/oranges. Though they can still be installed so I do not have to miss anything really. As for the default personally I do no mind what they make it, as it is only as such the default to serve a purpose. It just so happens it looks good as well.

Human was a welcome change from Luna for me, and Ambiance beats the glass of Vista/7. In my humble opinion of course.

it's you. I'm not impressed by the GUI in 10.04 but, let's see what happens with Maverick.

Guys guys.... the icons!!!! Ubuntu's default icon themes are and have always been UGLY AS

Also the rendering is ugly... I just cant stand watching the pizels peek out from rounded borders and scrollbars... I dont know if its GTK or whatever... but they never make it though this hurdle.... metacity actually does...

Some like the brown, others hate it. Some like the purple, others hate it. They can't win!! Me, i don't mind either as i just use my own choice of theme anyway, that's what most of us do.

The default theme has certainly improved, but I really don't like working with that color scheme. I tend to think GNOME is really starting to look outdated in general, though.

Hence why I use "GNOME" in that I started from a default GNOME system and have gconf, GNOME system/preferences GUIs (which I think are probably the best for simplicity and ease of use), etc, but my UI has absolutely zero default GNOME components (cairo-dock replaces gnome-panel, emerald replaces gtk-window decorator, GnoMenu replaces the default application menu, gnome-do replaces Alt-F2).

I agree OP, I think it looks absolutely fantastic. The new colours and themes make the system look uniquely Ubuntu, and very attractive imo. In fact with my current Lucid it's the first time I haven't changed the theme to something else. I just switched the buttons over to the right, and that's me done. Maverick looks even better.

A change is as good as a holiday they say!

The new look is so refreshing. What would a new release be without the change in looks every time.

yea it is but the color scheme isn't the best , the orange just looks out of place imo . The Icons have got to go , they make it look so tacky ... it needs a polished icon set

I think they should use the Faenza icon set. They look nice with the maverick dark and light themes.

Really happy with the new Light themes on my machines.
New sound preview graphic looks great.
Nautilus is also improved.
Can't wait to see the new fonts.
Ubuntu is really getting slick in my opinion.
