not shore where to place this, but in windows 7(*,) is there a way to completely replace explorer with X11+KDE? I know about KDE on win but I want a complete replacement.

Have you seen http://windows.kde.org/ ? I never used it, so I can't help you very much.

I think they are trying to get plasma to port to Windows. that is what I was refuring to buy kde on win. I have a setup with two monitors and I want the second screen to have one large clock on it.

Windows have native gadgets since Vista. On XP you can use google desktop.

They don't fill a 15 inch screen at 1024x768 resolution.

I could but there is no fun in that. And it would ruin a perfectly good monitor.
