Hello. Over this last year, I have had my electronic gear searched. Although I never got in trouble for what was on there (surprisingly), it has made me a little paranoid. I wanted to know if these were good security precautions to take, and if so, how can I do them? My thought was, on my laptop, phone, and Flash Drive to have two partitions. One with my real stuff. And a second partition with a bunch of fake stuff. But I don't want it to be detectable. So, on my laptop I go to the main login screen, and have my password and log into ubuntu just fine. My idea is to have the same login screen, but with a different password that would unlock the hidden partition with innocent stuff on it. And the same with my phone (android) and USB key. I really don't know if this is possible or not, but I would like to know.

Not sure if it will work on Android but for your laptop and USB key I believe TrueCrypt will serve your needs

Yeah, just use truecrypt to lock up the files you don't want people snooping into.

You might want to re-read that.

Indeed; install truecrypt and all of your tentacle porn will be safe.

And remember to always cp (no pun intended) files to your truecrypt volume, and then shred (5x at the very least) the original. If you just mv them, the files are still there on your drive, and can be easily recovered.
