View Full Version : [ubuntu] MSN in IMs stopped working.
August 15th, 2010, 02:42 AM
Few days ago out of the blue I couldn't log in to my MSN account anymore.
I use Empathy and aMSN and neither works, just stays at loading for a while and times out.
Then I downloaded other IMs (pidgin, kopete, emesene) and out of those only kopete worked.
I tried making new accounts and reinstalling these programs but it doesn't help, any thoughts about this?

no problems with pidgin, you can follow the http://pidgin.im/ instructions to add official pidgin's PPA
also try msn-pecan, an alternative plugin for msn, you can use it in both empathy and pidgin
sudo apt-get install msn-pecan
then disable your msn account first and then change it from MSN type to WLM, enable it again
this also conects faster :D

I'll try it but I want to know why empathy and aMSN stopped working and how to fix them, I kinda like them and don't want to switch.

It fixed itself somehow. Lasted few days and now works ok hmm.
I had similar problem before but I didn't pay attention since I don't use laptop daily and thought it fixed itself after restart but now it didn't work for few days.
I'll pay attention and post back again when it stops working.
Edit: Empathy works, but now amsn doesn't hmm. I don't think this is program specific.
