HELLo!

I was wondering if anyone knew if there is an KDE-style app launcher for XFCE, preferably in the repos. I'm using KDE on my main system, and would love to have the same ALT+Space launcher on my laptop. Only without having to install (and run) all of the KDE libraries.

I've looked around a bit, but couldn't find any suggestion. Closest I came was a couple of Mac-OS style docks.

Happy surfin'!

Hello Hellkeepa,

Do you mean a launcher where you press a certain key combination and type in the thing you want to open and press enter? If so, Gnome Do (which is in the repos under gnome-do) can do just that, only without the KDE libraries (Gnome and XFCE are based on the same platform). Check out http://do.davebsd.com/ for more info.

Hope that Gnome Do does what you want,
Finnbuntu ;)

Kerry_S: Sorry about that, should have thought of it beforehand. Here's a couple of pics I managed to scrounge from the web:

For more pics, please see this Google search (http://www.google.no/images?client=opera&rls=en&q=krunner&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=no&tab=wi).

Finnbuntu: Gnome-Do seems like it'll suffice, yes. At far as I can tell, from a quick glance, it has all of the features I'm looking for. Only annouyances were the need to install the Mono-libs, and that I can't change the key bindings. Luckely, the call-key combo was exactly the one I wanted. :-)
Thanks for the suggestion.

If anyone else has an alternative suggestion, I'd love to have a look at it as well.

Happy surfin'!

Hi,
Take a look at 'grun' and possibly 'bbrun' in the repositories. Grun would probably better because bbrun needs to stay running as a floating icon in the upper left of the desktop.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip, but it seems that Gnome-Do is the better fit of those. The ability to do a broken-name search for the menu label, as well as the executable name, is one of the core features I were looking for.

Alt/F2 will give you "Run Program" in XFCE,(Xubuntu)
