During an automated network upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04. All went well until I got to the part about Removing Obsolete Packages. I told it to go ahead. Somewhere in that process the computer abruptly reset and powered off.

I know it did not complete removing the obsolete packages. How can I identify and remove them now?

Try the following commands in terminal:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

sudo apt-get clean

sudo apt-get -f install

That last one may recommend running "apt-get autoremove".

I ran all of these and it seem to have removed a lot of excess packages. I'm still not sure that the obsolete packed were all removed.
