Just curious, when did you get your first cell phone, and what was it? Plus what phones have you had since then? Here's a run-down for me...

1996 - Motorola Flip Phone through 360 Communications
I was on a 30/minute a month plan for like $30... and I thought that was a good deal! Also this was one of those first huge, bulky flip phones.
1999 - Motorola StarTAC - Alltel (360 Comm was bought by Alltel)
2002 - Motorola V60 - First phone with Text Messaging, also had an awesome metal cover... this thing was indestructible!
2005 - Motorola V265 - First phone with camera
2007 - Motorola MotoQ
2008 - Motorola Q9C - Replaced MotoQ after dropping it in a swimming pool
2009 - Motorola VE465 - one month before we were switched to Verizon since Alltel still had better plan and phone prices.

We just moved my wife to a DroidX, but even after using it last night for a few hours, I think I'll stick with my regular ol' phone for the unforeseeable future. Heck I'm even thinking of going back to the Motorola V60 if I can find a battery for it plus get Verizon to activate it. That was the best phone I ever owned!

LG Chocolate 3 VX8560 - 2009 to present

It's probably going to be my last as well. I don't make or receive many calls and will probably just get a Skype number and use it on my computer after I move out on my own.

The only thing I really use it for is it's built in camera and FM transmitter, so I can listen to music while driving.

I have had two cell's:
my first, the LG Voyager which lasted me a couple years, finally meeting it's end when the battery wouldn't hold a charge (kind of like my '94 Ti 486DX laptop, but nicer). I'm working on getting a linux distro functioning on it now :)
My second, which I got because a replacement battery for the Voyager was $40 and this new phone was free with a $20 upgrade fee (some anniversary celebration at Verizon) is the Samsung Reality, which I love. Had it only for a month now though.

So far I've owned three great phones called "Whatever Verizon Gave Me For Free With My Contract". Some day I'll get and Android though :).

I still have my Nokia 101 from 1992... And it still works... Barely...

Then a Ericsson something,
Then a Motorola something, flip thing with red numerals
Then an i-Mate PDA 2K - still works, been through the ROM Kitchen several times, dunno what it's running now, wonder if I can get Android or something on there?
Then several Nokia's
Now a Bastardberry 9000, and a Nokia 6210 Nav...

I have a Sprint Mogul.

I would like to have it flashed to Metro PCS, only with full internet connectivity. Metro phones suck and their phones dont have 'real' internet, but the unlimited data is a good deal if you can hack a phone to work with metro....and not the dumbed down phone and text only flash that metro stores used to do.

1998 - Ericsson (one of those bricks, can't remember which type) - Reason for replacing: battery died

2000 - Ericsson T18s - Reason for replacing: battery died)

2002 - Sony CMD-J5 (Lovely scroll wheel) - Reason for replacing: Phone died.

2004 - Siemens M25 - Reason for replacing: Battery and charger died.

2007 - Nokia 3120 - Reason for replacing: Piece of ****. Battery issues, SIM-card slot issues, unlogical menu's, reception issues, sound was crap.

2007 - SonyEricsson K200i - Reason for replacing: Needed phone with tethering and HSDPA (and tomtom)

2008 - Asus P750 Smartphone. Still have it and no reason yet to replace it :)

2000 - Nokia 8210
2002 - Samsung x497
2004 - Sony Ericsson z525a
2006 - Motorola L7 Slvr
2008 - LG CT810 Incite

I don't have any brand loyalty when it comes to phones, but the little Samsung I had, and the Motorola never ever gave me problems. I'll never own another LG phone though.

Honestly it wasn't until I was on my 3rd or 4th phone that I noticed I was setting a trend with Motorola. I always liked the flip phone format (I'm a Trek nerd, what can I say), and back then Motorola was the only option through the carrier I used with a flip form factor. Also the Motorola menus on the earlier phones were pretty much the same across models, and given Nokia was the biggest alternative I didn't care for the Nokia menus or phones. I was butt-dialed by way too many people who had Nokia phones.

Also most of the phones I replaced were due to battery problems where it was about as cheap to just renew the contract and get a new phone than buy a new battery. The Motorola V60 was the only phone I ever bought a new battery for, but that was because it was such an awesome phone... and my eventual reason to replace it was to get a camera phone.

2005 - Siemens CF63: Was a major piece of crap, even by 2005's standards. The only thing the phone could pride itself on was having a ring of light running around the perimeter that could do various little light shows. Also, the phone had this big Spoiler/Handlebar. Ew!

2007 - Motorola RAZR V3: Was a step up. At the time, the phone was still the most stylish out there, since Smartphones like the iPhone weren't released yet. It was pretty reliable, although the keypad was a terror to use.

2009 - iPhone 3G: My current phone, although that'll change. I love this phone. It's got all my music, mail, social networking, and a lot more. Unfortunately, it's running pretty slow when it comes to iOS 4.0. I'm switching within the next few weeks.

2010 - Motorola Droid 2: In a few weeks I will switch to Verizon and get the Motorola Droid 2. As of now, the Android OS seems better to use, plus the hardware is a massive step up from my iPhone. Although I won't have to use iPhone, therefore fully making the switch to Ubuntu, I'm worried that the Music Player will be subpar compared to my iPhone's.

I've mostly had Motorola phones, but I've been looking at some Android phones and the iPhone 4 for when my contract expires next year.

I however used to own a really bad Windows Mobile 5.0 phone, I think I still have it. Dunno what the brand was though, some obscure one I think.

I can't remember the models of all the phones we've had, it hasn't mattered too much as long as we could make a call, but here goes with what I can remember, not necessarily in any order: 3 x Motorola, a Sony Ericsson, Alcatel, Sanyo, Pantech and ZTE.
