Greetings,

I have a rather spoiled 10.04 installation (not very clean upgrade from an earlier version) and many things don't work anymore, for example WINE or installing updates.

Is there any possibility to re-install 10.04 retaining all the previous arrangements (e.g., a working typo3-installation ...)

Best

I wanna repair installation as well. Cant get past this "low graphics mode". Don't want to lose my data.

If you have an external drive, you could try copying off the /home folder and everything beneath it, doing a reinstall, and then copying the /home folder contents back -- but that will only save the stuff you have stored under /home.

try running recovery mode then run dpkg. that might repair some of your brocken packages.
