Some how I "boinked" my sytem this morning. Rather than trying to figure how to fix it, I opted to reinstall from a CD. I previously had placed my home directory on a separate partition so there was no needed changes to that.

After 20 minutes of installing from the CD, I successfully rebooted. I then copied a backup copy of my home directory, installed Thunderbird, Firefox, Virtual Box and couple other programs and I was back to where I was before.

I am AMAZED at home quick I can recover from a "boinked" system without having an image of my drive.

Yep. This is awesome. You will probably like my Umarks (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13153) extension for Firefox. It allows to create a list of installed packages and repositories, then install all at once after the clean installation of Ubuntu. This is very useful if you install a lot of programs.

I can get my system back in no time :)
