I can think of a few, but they all have bad endings, the geek/nerd looses his or her geek/nerdiness.

The Lonely Guy with Steve Martin, but he's not really so much of a nerd.

Sorry, but antitrust is a movie about a good looking nerd. Unless you're as good looking, you'll still be lonely.;)

Revolution OS is amazing, makes me want to convert everything I have to OSS - e.g. Music to OGG, Videos to OGV, etc.

Watch Spiderman.

Which one? I remember seeing one with some young cousins back in the late 1970s. (Possibly this one (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076975/), it was a long time ago.)

I suggest using computer skills to attract attention from the media. An example would be using this (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessBroadcastSystem) from a laptop somewhere where people will find it.

I didn't knew something like that existed:D. I mean OP can watch any Spiderman movie because all of them are about nerd transformation.

You guys named virtually every one of my fave movies/documentaries :)
- Revolution OS
- Pirates of Silicon Valley
- WarGames
- AntiTrust

Though not a film, if you can find the Nova episode 'The KGB, The Computer, and Me' (IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0308449/)) from 1990, it's an episode about an astronomer named Cliff Stoll who spent a year tracking down a KGB hacker who was breaking into the LBL computers at Berkeley from Germany, all starting from a 75 cent accounting error. It's based on his book The Cuckoo's Egg which is a great read!

As for other films, though it's a kids book, the Percy Jackson books are great, and the movie is okay -- though the book was 10x better (movie was changed SO much from the book).

Hmm, others that come to mind:
- Daryl
- The Explorers
- Weird Science (someone else mentioned, but great flick)
- The Net
- Electric Dreams is great, though not about a hacker that gets famous. One of the BEST soundtracks!
- Takedown (supposed to be about Mitnick -- not accurate at all, but a good movie)
- Freedom Downtime (neat documentary put out by the fine folks at 2600)

And of course -- Office Space!
