Okay.
I have a brand new fresh install of Ubuntu 10.4 on a generic PC with an Athlon processor, 1 gig hard drive, and a PCI SATA card with a silicon image chipset.
I've tried both the Desktop installer CD and the alternate installer CD.
What happens is that the computer appear to boot normally. I'm presented with a purple screen and a cursor, and it then it goes back to the login screen and asks me for a username and password again. The username and password are correct.
I cannot login to another console (ctrl-alt-F1 etc). If I try the screen goes blank and that's it.
Help?
