Hello. I recently bought a Western Digital Elements Portable Hard drive 120GB to install Kubuntu(or just Ubuntu) 10.04 on so I can run it on multiple computers. I have tried installing it to the usb hard disk simply by choosing that disk for installation and also putting GRUB on it. When I restart the computer, it boots to the external hard drive, opens GRUB, and then I select the correct OS. However, it then sits there for a while, and eventually just quits doing anything, putting the display to sleep.

One thing I have noticed is that the above process is the same when I tried it with Ubuntu 9.10, but it worked in that case.

Someone please help! A step by step process would be nice.
