View Full Version : A good media player needed

August 9th, 2010, 01:20 PM
I use my netbook for playing movies all the time. I used windows 7 on my netbook, but recently I changed to ubuntu for more speed.
I really need a media player with more functionality and better design, something like GOM player.
I also need a good music player or media center like JetAudio.
any solutions?

p.s: i don't like VLC media player, thanx!

i use exaile for music and mplayer for video. when i plug my netbook into an HDTV i use xbmc for both music and video since it provides a nice interface that you can use with a remote.

i guess it depends what kind of use your netbook will have, and why you dont like vlc i guess :p

i use gnome-mplayer for movies & music.

make sure you install:

add the medi repos & install w32codecs

add "-lavdopts skiploopfilter=all" to the gnome-mplayer options.

if you experience stutter & have hyper threading enabled in the bios, try disabling it, also disable the execute bits compatibility if you have it.

VLC is great once you set it as you like. You should give it another chance ;)!

For music I would try: Quod libet, Deadbeef, Guayadeque. They are all customisable with plugins and are reasonably lightweight.
