Well, my situation is somewhat like this.
I have a 12 year old computer which has 800 MHz of processing power and 256Mb of RAM.So I wanted to install Kubuntu on it.
I downloaded Kubuntu and burned it onto a disc.I went into the BIOS and made the CD-Drive as first boot.
I then put the CD in and rebooted. No matter how many times I tried the CD just doesn't start.

Also, the OS present on the system is 98.

follow this little help:

prepare your hdd first:

mini howto: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9216264&postcount=14

you might install an other distro on your system, like Lubuntu as it need less power than Kubuntu

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu

or try:

256MB, nowhere near enough for KDE 4.X. I think that if you have less than 512MB of RAM, the Kubuntu liveCD wont start. Ubuntu doesnt seem to post the minimum recommended requirements for kubuntu anymore, but IMO its going to take at least as much as ubuntu-

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements

BTW, 800MHz is not 12 years old. P3 800s/Athlon 800s were only released in december 1999/january 2000.

+1. Or Siltaz, antix, or even debian (and there are lots of other distros that will work well on that system).

Did you burn the file as a data file or burn iso?
