What would happen if i update ubuntu

:(I was going to update my Ubuntu 10.04 to a maverick but after a failure i decided to update in October . I was wondering what would happed if i update . Would i have to configure everything again or my personal data and configurations will remain intact

Maverick is alpha software right now. It is considered "very unstable" and you will in all likely-hood encounter issues with it here and there. If you want stability then you are best waiting for the stable release in October.

Your settings will remain, sometimes something get borked. (on my machine it was always the wireless till 10.04)
