Hi! Thanks for reading! My cousin is having some windows problems. The computer starts up, then goes to a Black screen with white text, saying that windows could not start normally, could be due to a hardware change. Then it lists various safe mode options, and all of the options start the pc up, and then lead back to this page. Earlier this morning, apparentley a adobe update dialog came up, and he clicked "no". Then the computer froze, and went into this cycle.

If nothing else works, and you have a proper install CD (not a recovery cd that wipes everything) then do a repair install. This will preserve your settings and files.

Make sure your PC can boot from CD first (fix this in the bios if needs be)

Insert Xp CD
let it boot
Select Install Windows
Press R to repair XP
Add product key, network and regional info as required
Wait 30 minutes
Job done

Thank you! Unfortunatley, Sony is very kind, and he doesnt have a good cd. He will be trying to get one from work. Also, to get a backups of his photos, I will have him get a linux live cd, and walk him through using K3b to burn all his photos to CD :mrgreen:

I am thinking knoppix, or mepis.
