So, Google is pulling the plug on Wave http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/update-on-google-wave.html

We are a small software shop, less that 10 developers, and up to 5 projects going on at anyone time. We used Wave as a collaboration tool...one wave per project. We kept requirements, terminology, UI changes, etc in the top section, and used the lower section for discussions.

It wasn't a perfect fit. Discussions are harder to do in a timely manner, since people aren't looking at wave as often as email, although they are easier to archive and keep with the project. We would also like something that would be easier to record and incorporate meeting notes.

There are a bunch of collaboration tools out there. Anyone use any? Opinions?

If this is for internal use then OneNote is pretty good for collaboration as you can slap just about any content in there. If you use Ubuntu at work, then have a look at TomBoy and Gournal. They aren't as rich but could be a close fit. OR, you could get the source code and host a Wave server locally?

Zenbe mail had something similar, called Shareflow, before Google came out with Wave. Unfortunately you can't sign up for the time being for their mail service.

Aww that is a shame... Used it a couple of times and thought the idea and implementation of it was fantastic.

Maybe the idea can continue without the help of Google.

Since its open source, it certainly will continue without google.

I thought Wave was great for school projects. I commute to college, and having everything set up in a wave made everything easier.

It was a solution without a problem.

Quite the contrary: it was a solution that set out to solve too many problems at once.

Google acquired EtherPad (http://etherpad.org/), whose founders were to work on Wave after the acquisition, and released it as free software. The Ubuntu UK folks are hosting an installation at http://pad.ubuntu-uk.org/. You can also set one up on your own server for private use.
