I've added a little FAQ (http://meta.ubuntu.stackexchange.com/questions/257/i-am-an-existing-ubuntu-community-member-how-does-stackexchange-work) on how we're going to make it work.

After reading that feel free to join in! http://ubuntu.stackexchange.com/

I thought this would be a stock exchange simulator where the stocks are Linux distros or software packages or something. Disappointed :(

This looks good too though!

Is there going to be any integration with the forums? This seems like a good idea, but also seems to disperse where the answers can be found. That could make things confusing for newer users who are trying to find an answer to their question/s.

Ubuntu is a collaboratively edited question and answer site for people who love Ubuntu.

Yeah, it'd be nice if a Wand of Make Sense In English was waved over that intro box...

I don't think integration is planned (although possibly the same log in details).

The idea is that the Stack Exchange website cuts out the discussion and forums, and makes it easier to find the actual answers.

What's so special about this? Well, nothing, really. It’s a Ubuntu website. The only unusual thing we do is synthesize aspects of Wikis, Blogs, Forums, and Digg/Reddit in a way that we think is original.

It is a great idea, but I've seen this sort of thing before. There will be answers in both places and it actually makes it harder to find an answer. Ultimately it isn't a lot harder, but having more than one place to look at is the start of a more complicated problem. I have faced this in content management when companies keep their documents or content in more than one location. It creates a division and confusion as to where one can find "the real information".

This isn't to say that it isn't a good idea or that this should not be done. But some kind of cross-references would go very far to help in preventing the problem of dispersed information.
