View Full Version : [ubuntu] Graphics Card Recommendations for HDMI Audio

Hello all, I'm doing some research for the HTPC I'm gonna put together. First off this is a really tight budget I'm working with so I'm not really interested in the fancier cards. I was thinking about getting the ATI 5450 but I have read that some people can't get the HDMI audio to work with Lucid.

So my question is, what are your graphics card recommendations if I want to get 1080p and all of the HD Audio formats (TrueHD, Master Audio, DTS, ...) from the HDMI output of the graphics card?

got that working with nvidia gt220, so i guess most nvidia cards can make it happen. since i ran into enough trouble myself and had to read a bit on internet as well, it seems that ATI also have proper support for hdmi on linux.

the main problem was that alsa 1.0.21 doesnt support hdmi. alsa 1.0.23 makes life a lot easier. ubuntu 10.10 has 1.0.23 by default.

hope this helps. good luck anyway
