Hi all, first post and glad to be here.
):P

Some reassurance, please. I am running Ubuntu 10.04, and have a new MSI N9400GT video card. I am using the "generic" (?) NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver, as installed by System->Administration->Hardware Drivers. Other associated information is that I have the noveau blacklisted.

My worry. During start up there is a quick flash of a bright, blank, green screen before the Ubuntu splash screen, and the splash screen is in a low resolution and momentarily corrupted before Ubuntu loads. Once loaded, everything is perfect. This problem did not exist before, on a clean Ubuntu install, until I allowed the update manager to perform all pending updates. The problem persists whether noveau is blacklisted or not.

Are we okay, or is this something to worry about?

Thanks for your kind attention

It's okay. Those are proprietary drivers that Ubuntu cannot modify and they do not support the necessary technologies to make the splash pretty.

So, sadly, with those drivers your splash screen will forever look ugly.
