I tried posting to reoccurring discussions, but I can't post directly there. So, I assume this thread will be moved there soon enough anyway.

But how illegal is Piracy? Like, ripping a DVD from the library? What are the chances of getting caught? And torrenting Windows XP? Just wondering.

These guys would be happy to tell you.

IMHO, when you buy it it's yours. as long as you do not distribute it, It is My Opinion that you should be allowed to use it how you want.

The nice thing about Open Source is that it is impossible to pirate Ubuntu. :)

I'll probably get flamed for this, but;

I happen to respect Intellectual Property Rights. Just because it isn't tangible doesn't mean it's worthless. I get paid for my skills and expertise and the author / creator / publisher of software / music / literature deserves to be paid for his or her creative ability.

It is illegal inmost Countries. I suggest you consult the laws where you live.

Ubuntu Forums does not support or encourage Piracy in any form.
