A coworker gave me her old laptop, an HP Pavilion ze4125. It's a nice little machine and runs XP flawlessly...but I'd rather run *buntu on it. BUT, neither Ubuntu nor Xubuntu will install on it. They did on 9.04, but since 9.10 I'm not able to install. Xubuntu 10.04 gets as far as that initial black screen saying ISOLINUX 3.63 Debian-2008-07-15, and stops. Other versions of Ubuntu and Xubuntu ask me what language I want to use, but then freeze up after I select to install the OS.

Oddly enough, Lubuntu installs successfully, but it doesn't always run reliably. For instance, oftentimes when it comes to the logon screen there's a long delay before it accepts keyboard input. That kind of thing--it's just kind of shaky overall.

I don't know if the problem is that it's an AMD processor, or if it's because it has an ATI video card, or what. Anyone have any ideas?
