Hey,I'm really new to the Ubuntu family. Having just really heard about it, can anyone tell me what the real difference between Ubuntu and Internet explorer is?

thanks

Ubuntu is a Operating System. Internet Explorer is a browser that is made by Microsoft. Microsoft Windows is an OS. There are no security issues with Ubuntu. It is easier and cheaper to use and faster. If you want to try it, we can tell you how to make a live CD. That will let you try Ubuntu without touching Windows and leaving your system just as it was.
You will get a lot of opinions.

Uhm, Internet Explorer? Internet explorer is a browser where Ubuntu is an operating system. If you mean Windows, Ubuntu (Linux) is much quicker and more user-friendly. Also, the security of Ubuntu is higher, since third party applications don't necessarily work on all occasions. Ubuntu is mostly used for developing things like websites and programs.

Internet Explorer is a web browser for Windows. Ubuntu is an entire OS. It uses browsers such as Chrome and Firefox, if that's what you are asking.

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say IE = web browser and Ubuntu = operating system.

So, you mean the difference between Ubuntu and Windows (In general). Do you know what version of Windows you run? Anyway, since you don't seem to do much with the computer, such as picture organizing and email, putting text on the screen, whatever. You should use Ubuntu. You have no viruses or maintenance, and if you dump Windows, it will be even easier. Have you burned (made) a cd of Ubuntu yet? If not, post back and we will help.
So Audiomick, decided to get off those games? You were quick, but I posted first!
