not your usual grub reinstall request. my laptop is special. I can't boot a live cd because the #$#$@*&^@#W# webcam on my laptop (acer travelmate 8200) causes a kernel module to reload about once a second non-stop and kills the boot process full stop. I had to install off the alternate install last time.

so windows bit the big one and I needed a reinstall. no problem I though. just follow the grub rebuild instructions I thought. piece of cake I thought.

nope.

staring at a blank screen to 10 min reminds me I can't boot off of live cd.
I try to put puppy linux on flash but my laptop is my only cdrom burner. and a flash build inside a vm is not flying either.

I update my sysresque flash. I try the grub instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20GRUB%202

and I am rewarded with a grub prompt and a useless laptop unless I reinstall ubuntu.

uh, help?? ideal help would be a line I can type into sysresque. too much to wish for?

oh, I am so embarrassed. method 2 underhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20GRUB%202 worked from sysresque. helps if your hands work and you type the right path. am sooo embarrassed.
