Hey Everyone,

I got a tricky question here.....maybe not so tricky for the Pros.
I have Windows 7 Pro x64 installed on my laptop. I used WUBI and installed Linux Mint 9. Now i would like to create a dedicated partition for Linux and move my Mint install over there. I've read that LVPM does not work with WUBI 10.4 installs. So here is my idea..can it be done?

1. Use Linux DVD to boot laptop, create partitions for Linux and one for Swap space.
2. Install Linux using said DVD.
3. Boot back into my WUBI install of Linux and make a disk Image.
4. Boot back into new Linux install made with DVD.
5. Use image backup software to restore my image that i created onto the dedicated partition.

The reason i want to do that is so that i don't have to re-install all of my apps that i have in the WUBI install as well as all of my customizations such as compiz, themes, etc etc

Does what i am saying make sense? Can it be done that way? Did i miss anything? What's a good program with GUI i can use to make and restore the image (free).

Thanks.

Hi.

What you said really makes sense however I have never tried it out, I feel it is extremely possible.

Backing up via command line is explained in this excellent how-to. Take a look, it will be much easier than the gui.

Hmmm...that looks awesome. I'm going to give that a try. Here is my one question. That puts the archive in the root of my file system. I don't have enough space for that....how can i tell it to put the archive on a USB drive that i have plugged in?

Well I couldn't figure out how to do that. Might be some wiser heads than mine jump in and solve it out. Or send a message to Heliode (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=10871), he might be able to help you.
