Please excuse my ignorance.
One of the neat things about Linux is how easy it is to customize your work environment; this thread gives visitors a chance to see for themselves.
Some folks put a lot of work into their customizations; this is a harmless way for them to show off.
Some desktops in these threads are real works of art and I enjoy seeing them.

The thing with KDE is that a lot of the default stuff, Oxygen, Air etc are actually quite pretty and there's no compulsion to change them.

Arch but everything (Icons/Wallpaper - Ksplash and Login too) is made to look like the Pardus desktop.

You need nautilus elementary... How to install Nautilus Elementary in Lucid (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/04/nautilus-elementary-230-for-lucid-gets.html)

Then follow the instructions on this page (http://www.webupd8.org/2010/04/nautilus-elementary-breadcrumbs-for-any.html) to install the breadcrumbs hack.

Why does everyone use the forums attachments for images? It resizes them and they look ugly. It'd be much nicer if you used an external host. I use omploader.org which even provides the thumbnailed bbcode ready to use. That way we can see all the details (and it doesn't even require you to register).

Lol... I was thinking about exactly the contrary an hour ago... why some people use external image hosting? seems to be impractical given the attachment tool available..

Using:

1. DockbarX
2. The new connman connection manager (network manager had a stretched icon)
3. Indicator date-time
4. Cardapio menu
5. Customized Faenza icons* (Eclipse is hacked by me, Thunderbird needed a symlink from shredder.png to make DockbarX find it).
6. Background I think is from one of the Ubuntu background packages

Why does everyone use the forums attachments for images? It resizes them and they look ugly. It'd be much nicer if you used an external host. I use omploader.org which even provides the thumbnailed bbcode ready to use. That way we can see all the details (and it doesn't even require you to register).

Hey thanks for the tip. i was searching for a new host after ubuntu-pics went down.

I'm using Docky.

One of the folders is the recent documents docklet - if you right click it a list of your last used files comes up. The other is just there because I had nautilus open somewhere, though I think you can have launchers that open up your folders...

Thanks, it's a small program called cmatrix. I use it as sort of a "screensaver" for my terminal, it starts as soon as i open my terminal, but as soon as i press any key it disappears :p

sudo apt-get install cmatrix

then just add cmatrix -s to somewhere in your .bashrc (theres probably a more elegant way to do it then just throwing it in there, but it was just a quick little thing and i just made it the first line :p)

Higher resolution here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3746044/ubuntu-Screenshot.png (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3746044/ubuntu-Screenshot.png).

Icons are Token-light, wallpaper is one from the elementary defaults, I think. Using Docky and Gnome-Do in docky mode. Big clock is Cairo-clock.
Very eye-catchy. From the icons, to the wallpaper. I like everything in there! :)

Thank you!

Nothing new for August so far, but considering swapping out the GTK theme and possibly tweaking the colour settings on the icon set at some point. Might change the dock settings for something a little more artistic. Will post if anything interesting happens :)

Nice one, Ringgi. :)
Good soundtrack as well.

"Batbuntu" 10.04 Gnome
Icons: Hydroxygen (with custom modifications)
Conky (reduced down to one)
Theme: Elementary
CoverGloobus: Appows theme
Wallpaper: Worlds Finest Online
Font: Desktop fonts are a mixture of Andes, Tin Doghouse, Liberation Sans Bold, OpenLogos

I'm experimenting with Elementary at the moment and decided to change my wallpaper while keeping it in line with my comic geek sensibilities. :) Superman? None of this DC crossover Justice League stuff, man!!... it's not real Groucho Marxist unless it's pure dark Batman!! :P
Seriously though, it's a nice setup. ... Great work, as always. :)

Ringi, beautiful. Nice transparency, you might want to add some Gaussian blur via Compiz (Blur Windows, blur=Gaussian, radius=5) to make text more readable. Is that Gnome (and what are your icons)?

I tried that and didn't like it...
Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

There is no change (Radius 3 - 1)

Yes, Multicolor-Gnome.

Thanks! :D

In that case, I would like some help in picking my new dark Batman wallpaper. I've narrowed it down to three wallpapers that all feature the color red (my favorite color). Which should I use?

Image #1 is from a Batman Annual
Image #2 is from the credit sequence of Batman: The Animated Series
Image #3 is an edited version of a panel from the Dark Knight Returns

Number 2. The others don't really work and/or just too simple for a Batman theme.

It's just a part of my conky script using the conkyBanshee script and ImageMagick.

${execi 15 cp "`conkyBanshee -d CA | sed -e 's/album-art/media-art/'`" /home/wyvern/.album.png}${execi 15 convert /home/wyvern/.album.png -resize 374x374\! - | composite -compose CopyOpacity /home/wyvern/.albummask - /home/wyvern/.album.png}${execi 15 convert /home/wyvern/.album.png -background '#00000000' -rotate -11.9 .album.png}${image /home/wyvern/.album.png -p 434,345 -n}

Considering I'd never really used ImageMagick before yesterday... Yeah. It gave me some trouble.

conkyBanshee is a script I found somewhere here on these forums, though I don't remember exactly where.

Excellent. There's a nice X icon in the ACYL apps folder, xscreensaver I think though I'm not sure. Use it to replace the xchat default. :)

koleo, can we get details?

I used the Faenza icons and the cadmium gloss gtk + metacity themes. Both are at gnome-look.org (thanks to Sand and Mercury for pointing them out a couple of days ago (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9668849#post9668849))
Firefox theme is foxdie (http://foxdie.us).
Wallpaper is here (http://raohashi.deviantart.com/#/d22popn).

Dock is awn of course set to "none". :D
And the music controlling applet at the panel is panflute, from a ppa.

Can I just copy it and name it xchat.svg, or do I have to physically change the xchat icon somewhere?

Icons: Faenza (really nice, don't you think?)
Dock: Docky, since I had a change of mind.

Made a short screencast of my desktop, oddly enough my CPU cores are currently only at 2%/8%, the 80% in the screencast is all from xvidcap.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6348934/screencast.mpeg

Setup is basically gutterslob's BlueMono (http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/72528/#p72528) theme, customized a bit. I plan on making it a heavily text based setup, trying to learn things like Vim and MC, switching to MoC and such.

The background terminal is selectable so I can't right-click on it to access my menu, thinking of trying to find a way to put a transparent layer just above the terminal or something. Also thinking of uninstalling LXDE and just going back to building things from the WM up.

To do it, btw, I basically followed ArchWiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Openbox#Urxvt_in_the_background)'s instructions, adding this to my rc.xml

<application name="URxvt-bg">
<decor>no</decor>
<focus>no</focus>
<position>
<x>center</x>
<y>20</y>
</position>
<layer>below</layer>
<iconic>no</iconic>
<skip_taskbar>yes</skip_taskbar>
<skip_pager>yes</skip_pager>
<desktop>all</desktop>
<maximized>true</maximized> #Only if you want a full size terminal.
</application>And set the fonts and colors in .Xdefaults and set up this to run on startup

urxvt -name URxvt-bg +tr +sb -bl

Woah. That looks pretty awesome. I've been considering getting a netbook soon, and I'm probably going to install #! or #! Lite on it. Mind letting me in on what you've got going on there?
It's just your basic Openbox session (mine's based on a Debian netinstall with Unstable and Liquorix kernel sources) with a lot of configs taken from a #! Statler setup. Openbox theme, GTK and wallpaper are home-brewed, panel is tint2 configured to match my theme, system monitor on left is conky.
Second screenshot is just terminator configured to run in multi-split mode (cos I'm a bit lazy to set up a screen.rc right now) with lots of reconfigured keybindings.
Fonts are Artwiz.

Haven't put out this theme yet, but there are some similar theme packs/suites available here (http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/72528/#p72528) and here (http://www.mediafire.com/?dtnikjnoebd) if you want em.

.......
.......Nice work.
I remember my CPU being a bit much more stressed back when I tried this. Was fun to use, but just couldn't get used to the idea of the cpu doing more work than necessary (especially when some of the graphic apps I use already put quite a strain on the system), and having to move the mouse over to tint or conky to get the right-click menu became a bit tiring after a while. You screencast is pure sex, though (makes the one I PMed you seem ****** by comparison... I blame that useless app I used to make it, forgot the name)

You get full marks for the geek-porn!! :)
Only thing I'd change are the fonts, though that's purely personal (I prefer pixel fonts for this sort of setup)

From the screenshot, I notice slight drop-shadowing on the fonts in the scrolling background, which tells me you have xcompmgr working.... might as well disable it since the backdrop is already equally dark and the borders in the theme already do a reasonable job of separation between windows.
