Unless you're a shoe geek, my definition of geeky shoes would be... sneakers.

It is ok NerdAL, I wear Converse myself (yes I really do, because I have a misaligned leg which makes me pivot odd and it destroys other shoes within weeks with all the walking I do, but I actually like them so please go ahead and laugh :)), but I would say socks and sandals, which I plan on doing as soon as I get a pair. ^_^

I am not really a geek other than with Linux, but geek shoes rock.

Vans are pretty easy to kick off if you're stuck for a while and get that toe cramp thing without breaking out of the zone.

Even though I posted the classic socks & sandals look pic, I don't think I could ever wear it even though it was the IT "power footwear" or something like that. A few years back I busted a couple of toes and instead of doing that, I ripped out the rubber top of one of my Converse instead.

Birky's are a good start. I don't wear socks in the summer though.

How about bright orange Crocs? Nothing says "Look at me" more than a bright pair of Crocs.

I just found an Army clearance store and got me a pair of '85 black leather army boots. Anyone caught saying they're not geeky will get their can whooped with them.

Other that that, if you go by the dictionary definition of geek, then any of these (http://3kelvin.livejournal.com/5012.html) will definitely be a great choice.

When I was a young 'un, I used to wear brogues (http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1_dKaOsOwug/Sn2RFZ2H0KI/AAAAAAAABDw/jXld-rAOUYs/s400/brogues.jpg&imgrefurl=http://verbmall.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html&usg=__64eFWmKnIqgDA6Cy6NmpS42p76c=&h=330&w=275&sz=27&hl=en&start=0&tbnid=XK8i3kH1MgIMhM:&tbnh=112&tbnw=91&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbrogues%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26newwindo w%3D1%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DG%26biw%3D790%26bih%3D26 3%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=496&vpy=-105&dur=9116&hovh=246&hovw=205&tx=70&ty=266&ei=pending&oei=AOhbTMPPBYeiOO2RvJYP&esq=4&page=1&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0). They are "sensible" shoes, so they might qualify as geekish. I certainly got a fair bit of stick from my schoolmates about them. Nowadays I wear steel-toecapped work boots, or trainers (aka "sneakers") that also have the steel toecap. They're not "cool" or especially attractive, so it's unlikely they'll ever stop being geekish.

Unfortunately, fashion "icons" like that Alexa Chung (Mmm, Alexa) have made brogues "cool". But that won't last long. I mean, look at them. Kind of shoe my grandfather liked to wear.

Not trying to be insulting, but......ever considered buying what you like, not being (as the skaters used to say) a 'poseur'.

Connies count as 'geeky'? :lolflag:

I was once told be a school friend that 'if I didnt wear connies, and my grades were better, I'd be a nerd'.

BTW, anyone on this thread being wearing connies for longer than a decade? I used to wear connies a lot, but about 2000, the quality dropped really badly. I changed to vans and they are much, much better, I can actually get longer than 6 months wear before going through the sole. Bonus is that they dont get 'connie rot'.

Yep! For about as long as I can remember, maybe since kindergarten. My parents would buy them a bit larger "to grow into" so I tripped over them a lot if I wasn't being extra careful. :D

I hear ya on the quality, my last pair started side splitting about two months in with just casual use. For a while Pony was making a retro style that was pretty close and better made, but they discontinued it. :(

But damn they are comfortable

They look it! My crocs are too, I can't get myself to wear them outside though :D

Converse are not geeky shoes, they are very much so in style right now, fyi.

For geeky shoes, you need to wear gray tennis shoes, or sneakers. Nothing expensive, just a $20 pair you got at the local discount store. Or else you need to wear sandals, with or without socks.

However, if you want to go rich geeky, you should go with a pair of Born shoes, they will be in style, and geeky.
www.bornshoes.com

Trust me about this, I know what is cool and what is not cool. Geeky shoes need to be uncool, so I have given you your choices. If you go with Converse, you are following a trend, because it's trendy to be not trendy, which makes non-trendy things more trendy than traditional trendy things.

I currently am in a boat shoe wearing stage, they're cool, and yet very few people around where I live where them.

pfft, a real geek would make the shoes out of actual circuit boards.
