New SSD NO Devices Dected

I just bought a 30gb v series ssd now on sale. I know it's detected by my computer because it shows up in the black scrolling text when i press escape for boot menu. but when i go to install ubuntu or windows 7 for that matter it doesn't show up in gparted or as a drive to install too. can someone help me? i would hate to send it back

there are a lot of potential problems. for example, i know intel drives can have some issues with nvidia chipsets. i've never used a kingston though.

EDIT:
have you tried the drive on another computer? if you only have one personal computer, perhaps you could ask a friend. the drive could be a dud. i hope this isn't the case, but its not unheard of.
