This is the second time I have been posed with the situation of creating a live usb ubuntu drive to do an ubuntu install without having an ubuntu machine to create the usb stick with.

There is very little if any information on how to do this. I will manage, I can always install unetbootin on a family members windows machine... but, that isn't how it should be.

If there is a good article on creating an ubuntu bootable usb stick with DD or something that isn't dependent on ubuntu please do let me know.

Thank you.

If you can boot the Live USB you can use usb-creator.
If you can get grub2 installed on the USB device you can boot an iso on a USB stick.

pendrivelinux.com has an extremely good live usb creator. works with almost any distro, and has the bonus of being able to create a persistant drive with several distros
