Well the new school semester is starting up, and a tool that would help me with note taking and whatnot would be a computer, but my laptop is an 80,000 lb monstrosity. So I'm looking for a netbook that I'll get with leftover student loan money. I want to get one with Ubuntu on it because I'm going to need fast boot times (I know most people don't care about this but it's essential if I'm bringing it to class), and I want a decent battery life so I was looking at this (http://zareason.com/shop/product.php?productid=16250&cat=250&page=1) or this (http://zareason.com/shop/product.php?productid=16261&cat=250&page=1) or this (http://www.system76.com/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=105). I'm pretty sure these would be hassle free to setup and use, but I'm wondering how great your experience is with any of these for anyone who has tried them.

get the Terra HD with a 6 cell battery. or you will have to charge it every 2-3 hours. Also it has a much better screen.

Yeah I think I'll get that with the 6-cell and an extra gig of RAM. Mmmmm...sexy.

Do these specialized Linux vendors only use hardware that's fully compatible with Linux and even set it up so there won't be any hassle? I was thinking about getting a Dell before Dell stopped selling them, but I was turned away because the Dell laptops weren't exactly hassle free.

I know that System76 tests the hardware they sell with Ubuntu so it's fully compatible out of the box. When I got my Sys76 machine, it was already built with Ubuntu.

the eee pc is supposed to be customizable and it's really cheap but I don't think they ship with linux anymore. Even if/when they did, they shipped with xandros. I would recommend system76.

Hmmmm...I wish I could order the Starling from System76 with a 6-cell battery. I don't want to order an extra 6-cell for a hundred bucks and put it in, but it is still cheaper then the Terra HD, but the Teo already has a 6-cell and 2gb of RAM and is only $400. Does ZaReason have a bad reputation compared to System76?
