Hello,

I've been meaning to upgrade from Karmic to Lucid on a machine where I dual booth with windows (on another partition on the same hard disk). However, this forum and elsewhere seems to be full of people asking for help after the upgrade ruined their ability to boot into windows. The problem seems to be a confusing way of installing grub, and is described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/576724

I've decided to ask for help before I ruin everything. The above link says that I should not follow the advice "if in doubt select all", but doesn't say what I should do. So, what is the correct way to install grub when I upgrade? And if possible, can you please explain why?

Thanks in advance!
