Bored over the summer?

If your bored, and have no life (really, I clearly do not....) Ive made a simplified/easier gentoo tutorial right here (http://dolphinaura.com/tutorials/easy-gentoo-guide-ubuntu).
Quite fun, since you get to use what you create.

I took the boat out to Kapiti Island a couple of weeks ago , it wasn't too bad . We caught a few Snapper.

Heck NZ is the outdoors capital of the WORLD!!
Know it is the middle of winter there right now, but skiing is good (nephew just did a few days on South island). and you can always go north and hit the surf. Or fish .. or whatever!

I've tinkered with both Arch and Gentoo. I don't know about Gentoo, but arch has NO security whatsoever. I have no desire to put either of them back on my machine. Ever.

......... probably the worlds nastiest Linux-distribution.

before you start, make sure that you have your emergency kit near the computer, for example your partner, some cartoons, your favourite alcoholics... this could get pretty rough!

The known problems are:
- youll have to manually mount everything after booting up
- there are NO init-scripts yet
- there are NO shutdown-scripts yet
- the only way to shutdown your computer is to umount everything with mount / -o ro,remount and umount -avrf a couple of times and wait until your harddrive gets quiet.

hmmmm sounds like an early version of Mandrake or Red Hat!!
(and their forums were rife with RTFM type remarks and "you're too stupid to use Linux" responses. After all, early users were BORN knowing Linux.)
