I have done a fresh install from CD of Ubuntu 10.04, in a separate partition from the 9.10 that I have been running.
I'm not happy with 10.04 because it does not seem to recognize all my partitions -- disk utility is blank and there is no sign of additional partitions in "Places" or Nautilus.
So I tried to boot my old 9.10 from the grub menu, but it gets so far and then hangs with a blank screen. It doesn't get as far as log-in dialog.
I tried booting the 9.10 recovery mode and got to a text mode log-in which worked and got me to a command prompt run level 2. Looks like linux is working but maybe not the graphical stuff.
How could installing 10.04 in one partition break 9.10 in another partition?
How do I proceed?
Are there logs that will tell me where 9.10 is falling over?
