View Full Version : [ubuntu] 10.04 takes a long time to boot up

I have an Acer Aspire 1810TZ laptop with Windows 7 on it. I decided to dual boot w/ Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit Lucid Lynx. I was initially getting this issue

gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
-Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
-Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
-Check root= (did the system wait for the righ device?)
-Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/bf2ed1f9.... does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

(initramfs)

but this usually doesn't happen anymore because I changed the rootdelay option in the Grub file to 90 (previously, it wasn't waiting long enough).

However, it now can take over 4 minutes to boot and I have a sneaking suspicion that this can be fixed (it shouldn't take that long, right?).

I looked on other forums to see what information people provided to help solve this problem, so here's some information you might need to help fix this:

I am new to Ubuntu and would greatly appreciate anyone's help. If I can't fix the long boot time, I might try out a previous version.

I also have a the same problem. I have XP and Ubuntu 10.04 dual boot. Both OS works fine. But Grub takes too much time to load (15 to 20 seconds). I tried to remove the splash screen, but nothing changed. After the restart of any OS, grub loads without time delay (in 2 seconds).
