Screensavers running in powersave?

I have the system monitor applet running and when I come back to my computer after a time, the processor drops from 100% to just above 0. In fact, sometimes the monitor comes out of powersave without turning off the screensaver, so the screensaver was definitely still running when the screen was not on. This would be a waste of energy on a battery powered device, and the screensaver should automatically deactivate when the monitor goes into powersave mode (or when it is turned off, if that can be detected).

Is there a configuration option available already to make it do that?
