Hello,

I have a question that I hope someone can answer, been trying to google for it without luck.

Anyway,

My laptop got a resolution of 1280X800 or something. what I want to do is set it to 1024*600, but I do not want it to cripple or stretch the screen. Aka I want a pixel for pixel resolution, with black boards for those pixels not used.

The reason i want to do this is because I want to test if the lower resolution is enough to show a full page with readable text. (picture text)

Is it possible to do this? And how do I configure Xorg for that?

Using ubuntu 10.04

best regards
Mikael

You can't change 1280x800 to 1024x600 without distortion because it's not the same aspect ratio. You can do either 1024x640 or 960x600.

I might be misunderstanding you, but just go to System>Preferences>Display and try out the different available resolutions and refresh rates.
