The proper way to get an OS off, is to use DBAN.

http://dban.sourceforge.net

That's the only way to guarantee that an unwanted OS is gone.

where did you download it from?

download from here (http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download) - and when reinstalling, make sure you choose english!

Reinstalling will give you the option to format the drive - choose it to completely overwrite the chinese installation!

wow - what a fast response!

yeah, i downloaded it from the main Ubuntu website.

I am fairly anxious about all this, to tell you the truth.

just moving over from a mac tonight.

...so i press power on my notebook and then i get a blue screen with Red flag 6 in the middle of the screen. press enter then tonnes of white-on-black writing comes up.

then it says login:

well, how?

- i wish i hadn't bothered. just want to wipe it off and install with linpus linux that cam with it.

cheers

hard doing this kind of stuff with dyslexia an all.

...

not sure that I'm following you - you want to erase ubuntu and install some-other operating system?

Suggest - download that operating system and follow their install instructions. Hopefully you will be given the option to "format" the drive during the install process.

so i turned power off, and rebooted holding esc...

...now installing Linpus linux.

Where on earth did Red Flag come from?

and how to remove the bugger?

will eventually get ubuntu working, i hope!

Ah....., Linpus linux is specifically designed to support the Asian market.

Where did you get the laptop ??

...

possibly your netbook/laptop is one of those that has a linux bios implemented by "red flag". I'm not familiar with that sort of netbook. Possibly you have to enter the bios and choose an option to "hide" the default red flag splash screen.

Normally, on boot you have to press one of the function keys for example F2. Most netbooks display a message on the screen "press <x> to enter setup" or something similar. If it doesnt, just experiment by pressing F1 to F12.

just bought the laptop today in Berlin, Germany.

I was expecting Ubuntu, cos that's what's being bundled out with Acer's.

Just from the installation this Linpus looks pants!

Well if it is new from a vendor then something is screwy.

Why would you be sold a lappy set up for an Asian market in Europe.

The bundled os is Fedora Linux but for Asia.=Linpus.
