Preparing to dual-boot Mandriva--what should I do?

Hi, all:

I thrashed my grub install last time I tried to do this.

Buntu and Mandriva do not use the same version of grub. I have a partition set up already for Mandriva, and an alternate username. Here's what I want to know: what is this chainloading thing, and is that what I'm supposed to do in order to dual boot two different distros using different grub versions? If so, are there any good tutorials anyone can point me towards?

Other advice is also appreciated. I would like to do this smoothly the first time instead of the trainwreck I dealt with last time.
