Infinite scroll interface. Pretty similar to Bing. From what I know, its being rolled out only to around 10% of users currently.

Here is a screenshot for the other unlucky 90%.

I just got the interface update. I wonder how they choose the 10%? Perhaps because I use only Google search and also use Blogger, YouTube, Picasa, Code, Docs, Sites, Analytics, Feed Burner, Gmail...yeah, Google owns me :)

I don't like the look of that. One of the things I didn't like about Bing was the way the image search was set up. Also, that way looks even worse because the images aren't confined to a specific size or shape, they just are all jumbled together. In addition, it doesn't say what site the image is from unless you hover over it.

Whatever, I can't fight what the mighty Google wishes to do. If they want to copy Bing, so be it. I'll still use their search until someone else develops a better algorithm...

Click the "Exactly" on the left menu and type the size you want. This ill make the results homogenous.

I think is a lot better then clicking page 2, 3 and so on.

Anyway, soon someone will create a Stylish or Greasemonkey script to show the site below the images.

Yeah I must be one of the "lucky" 10%. I actually hate it to be honest. It feels extremely cluttered.

I like the infinite scrolling. I have a greasemonkey script that lets me do that for web results. I don't like the images being compressed together though. I wish there was an option to turn it off.

Yeah, options are always good.

Neat. So far I don't have any issues with it.

I seem to be in the 90%, even though I've been using Docs, Gmail, Labs features, and Google for ages :) They've got webhistory on me from 08 for God's sake :P

My new account that I literally made last week got the 10% preview of the new Google Images. :)

Could be a random selection based on browser version, OS, country and so on. But I guess how much you use the image search should also count.

I got it too.

I like it a lot, but it could use a little work. Quite cluttered. Any ability to keep the new thumbnail thing but have a "results per page" button so I don;t have to have a few hundred pics loading?

i love the new interface.

only because i am fortunate enough to not have a bandwidth cap. if scrolling down loads the next batch of stuff instantly, that means it was already downloading before i scrolled.

i wonder if they will have a 'classic view' option for folks with limited bandwidth.

Noticed it when my classmate wanted a Spongebob themed avatar and wanted me to make it for her. I extremely disliked it ever since I saw it. I've been having the problem where images don't load; never happened in the old interface.

I like it... but it is a bit overwhelming on a 23" screen.

The only problem I have with the new UI is that it isn't organized into specific and even columns. If it was, I would really like it.

I'm in the lucky 10%, I am Gmail user as well.
I prefer the new interface, although you could say it is cluttered you do get as many images as possible to choose from and don't have to go through the pages.

I have been chosen LOL :D It's awesome, it's like 4walled.org now. NICE!

Google is the only search engine I use, and I use it quite a bit, specially books.google.com and scholar.goole.com
Here's a screenshot, I only blurred my e-mail, notice the page number on the top left.

I've got the new interface. Hate it. I'd rather click through pages than deal with a single page that performs like crap.

I can understand people who have a slow internet connection would hate it.

I do like not having to paginate back and forth, and instead just scroll up and down.

Whats wrong with infinite scroll? Besides, it not really infinite scroll; instead it shows about 1000 results at a time, and when you scroll to the bottom, you get a huge "Show More Results" button, and clicking on which loads the next 1000 results or so.

I thought it was good for people with a slow internet connection?

I would assume that as you keep scrolling, it would load each and every thumbnail that becomes visible in the window.

I cannot browse with a window that big. On bigger screens, i always resize the browser. I have the need to scroll.

i've started to doubt the 10% and 90% thing...

i can access both kinds depending on how i enter google :)

if i go to www.google.com (http://www.google.com) i get the new look: example link (http://www.google.com/images?hl=eno&q=test&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1424&bih=731)
if i go to the local country www.google.ro (http://www.google.ro) i get the old look: example link (http://www.google.ro/images?hl=ro&q=test&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi)

but even if you try to go to google.com it might just redirect to your country google page. so, in this case, just do the search as it is and after you get the results change the link in the adress bar from google.ro (just as an example) to google.com and hit enter. you should get the new look and still have the text in your language.

Google apparently changed the image search a bit. As a result, the JavaScript is killing Firefox. Heck, even in Chrome the JavaScript is slowing the browser down. It's really weird, is anyone else getting this?

Try using my URL and see if you can get this as well.

works absolutely fine here, no lagging, well, if I scroll too fast it'll take a second to refresh the thumbnails but no lagging as you describe. This is using Chrome on a T43 Thinkpad running Xubuntu Jaunty.

Don't click-and-hold the scroll arrow, otherwise it will scroll forever and slowly. I had to kill the browser a couple of times already.

I just noticed the new format this morning... I left-clicked an image popup, it took me to another page with a grayed-out background and the image in the foreground. When I left-clicked the image again, it tried to install Adobe Flash Player.exe wtf!

I couldn't 'cancel' or 'close' the dialog box. It went into an infinite loop. I had to 'killall firefox' from a terminal.

Next I tried the same thing in Chrome, and I couldn't duplicate the error. Open firefox, google images again, error gone. It was weird.

Thats how google shows you the image on the grayed out original webpage. When you click the X button, you actually click on a link to the original webpage.

I think the original webpage is trying to download something. Its not google.

I really like it. When Bing came out, I hated most of it for its inaccuracy and shoddiness, but the image search was something where I said, "Google really needs to get off their butts and do something about this!"

And they have. :D Love you, Googsters.
