I would like to know if anyone has installed the latest NVIDIA driver on Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit) which is 256.35 (x86_64).

I am currently having some problem (unstable) with the previous release 195.36.31 (x86_64) and am now considering updating; but, am still reluctant because of possible problems during the installation process.

Any tips/suggestions on the installation would be appreciated (e.g. the installation steps that were used).

Yes, I'm using Nvidia 256.35. Got it here: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

Thanks Ann,
But, I my request for help was for Ubuntu 10.04 and the link was to Ubuntu-X. I am unfamiliar with Ubuntu-X.

If you don't feel comfortable installing a ppa ,you may want to wait until the official release.

Ok, I will consider trying it with PPA, which I know very little about.

How easy is to revert to the current version of the NVIDIA driver should this upgrade procedure fail? Do you know the steps for reverting?

Ok, I followed the instructions, exactly; but, I do not understand, after rebooting Ubuntu 10.04 and then checking the monitor with

System -> Preferences -> Monitors

that I always get the following popup (see attached screenshot)

Then if I click on Yes I get the following (next attached screenshot)

This clearly shows that it was upgraded to 256.35. Why do I always need to go thru this acceptance procedure?

And thanks for your advice on the upgrade :D

?

Click the dropdown menu next to "Overview of all packages published in" and choose 'Lucid'. But I see you've already installed the 256.35 drivers.
