Hi all, I have a 120 GB lenovo laptop with windows xp. I want to wipe out windows and only use ubuntu. Do I delete the windows partions first? Also I want to use my entire disk will the swap and main partition take all the space there or do i have to set the main partiton larger, does any other space need to be left. i know the swap is the same size as ram but not sure how the rest of the file set up goes. i have a book here but it is unclear about space as at time of writing of book 40GB was a big deal.

thanks for the help

No more windows for me

You don't have to delete the Windows partition first, just boot from the Ubuntu CD and, when the installer prompts you, select to "Erase and use the entire disk", as in the attached screenshot.

You can usually accept the defaults for the size of the main partition and the size of the swap.
